Homemade 5 gallon bucket race style fishing boat

Larry Leisuresuit That is a cool start on a great idea, It's definitely a
Builders preference type of thing though hu! LOL I might have come to the design you built on paper, but it would stayed on paper for improvements I think. Or it could be that i just saw yours and had the opportunity to shake my head where you didn't get yours till after the build.

tomkat1214 Just an ideal and I don't know that it would increase buoyancy but what if in stead of buckets you got 12" PVC and reduced out of your tee to the 3" or 4" frame. I was thinking if you solvent welded it all together with an extra tee you could put in a test air gauge and pump the whole rig up with air or some other gas to improve float. Kick ass ideal and a great video. I love where you are going with this thing.

Jeff Lake I have seen a lot of Good upgrade Ideas flying out so I will add one to the mix how about yes use your glue and Buy a couple giant bags of styrofoam Packing Peanuts inside the whole thing using the Idea mentioned with Biggest Diameter Pipes you can find and lose the barrels not using the screws is the best improvement ..WATER Tight is the way to build any boat and any material that rots under water is out I think maybe using the stuff for Plastic Fences as board or the PVC Type decking. Great Job Fun Videos.

WJK Awesome DIY and design but did cost of materials save money in the end vs buying something comparable & gently used (ie) more streamline, light weight, efficient and proven(?) Still awesome regardless. Incidentally, considerable weight savings could be accomplished by using lithium-ion batteries... yes, they are more expensive but Li offers no hassle maintenance/storage, quicker charging, wayyyy more charge cycles vs lead acid and can be drained/utilized well below 50% capacity which any attempt to do so w/a lead-acid would begin to permanently damage/lower it's spec'd mAh capacity. Also (as someone mentioned earlier) plastic kitchen cutting boards, synthetic decking planks and/or (better yet) angled aluminum channel might prove more worthy than particle board for a whole lot of fairly obv reasons.

Might even consider adding a solar panel if you go the lithium route given the fact there's usually a considerable amount of Sun involved/available when boating and/or sitting idle (with the motor off) while waiting for fish
 to bite :)
